You mention registration issues, but state that the phone rings. Without further detail, I am going to make a few assumptions. TL DR (don't blame you):- Is Bria worth the $50? Better than using hardware?

Is there a better software to use? I did try Express Talk but it wanted to install a few other programs which appeared to be malware (may not have been but it was scary in anycase). Is it worth paying $50 for Bria? Is it likely the solution that I'm looking for? I do receive multiple calls coming in at one stage, and it would be handy to have more functionality such as hold music. I'm using X-Lite with my normal wireless "entertainment" Logitech headphones and they're working surprisingly well, and I'm enjoying the battery life and mobility it offers. I'm wondering if abandoning the hardware phones and strictly going softphone only is the way to go. So I don't want to leave my current provider if I can fix the registration issues that I have. If I switch over to them I will not be able to return to my current provider as the package that I'm on has been "grandfathered". I've considered going to a new and better VoIP service provider and have found only one company that will offer a service that will only be a little more expensive than my current provider, should be of better overall quality, but will have none of the included quota. Today I disconnected the Linksys and I'm going to try to use the softphone from now on for incoming calls.įor outgoing calls I'm now using a fixed landline (PSTN) as our telecommunications provider (completely seperate to the VoIP provider) has given us a very good deal in which we can make unlimited national calls and mobile calls for only $40 a month - so I no longer utilize the VoIP service for outgoing calls apart from occasionally.

I don't want to go into a full explanation here because I'm too mentally tired to try to fix it - but essentially the phone rings, I pick up the phone, nothing happens - sometimes if put the line on hold I'll be able to take it off hold and speak with the person - but most of the time the call will go straight to voicemail (which I can't access via the phone as it gets garbled and I have to use the softphone to access the voicemail). More recently I have started using X-Lite softphone in conjunction with the Linksys - and the same registration issues have occurred. Their technical support is utterly hopeless and all issues were blamed on my VoIP phone (Cisco 525g I think) - which I swapped out and started using my older Linksys SPA942 - but the registration problems continued. but good - although I've had registration problems for several years, and it appears to be worsening. I used to use most or all of the included quota and well and truly got my moneys worth. The package also includes 1 DID number (local rates for anyone in Australia) My package costs $45 ish and includes 200 calls to Mobile phones, and 1400 national calls. I've been with my current provider for more than 5 years, mostly because the value of the included package has been so good. During installation you are asked to create a SIP account.I'm not technical but I've used VoIP for my small business for nearly 9 years now - across several different (Australian) providers. The X-Lite 4.0 softphone can be downloaded and installed from.

Find the system:dtmf:force_send_in_band entry, double click and change the value to 0. Now you get the advanced options menu up.

But in order to use SIP INFO you need to disable the other two options. The X-Lite has DTMF support for SIP INFO messages, in addition to RFC 2833 and inband DTMF. In order to make the buttons *, # (M-key operation) and 6 ( door opening) to work from the X-Lite during conversation, the X-Lite must be enabled for SIP INFO messages.ĪlphaCom use SIP INFO type signaling during connection.
